Billie Eilish - 8
Wait a minute, let me finish
I know you don't care
But can you listen?
I came committed, guess I overdid it
Wore my heart out on a chain
Around my neck, but now it's missin', hmm
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da (Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm)
Oh, hmm, hmm
So I think I better go
I never really know how to please you
You're lookin' at me like I'm see-through
I guess I'm gonna go
I just never know how you feel
Do you even feel anything?
Oh, hmm, hmm
"8" is a song recorded by Billie Eilish, featured as the eighth track in her debut album "WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?" “8” utilizes unique vocal mixing and production elements, and is Eilish’s first released track to feature a number in the title. In the iTunes and Apple Music description under the album, Eilish admits “8” is written from the perspective of somebody she hurt. When people hear that song, they’re like, ‘Oh, poor baby Billie, she’s so hurt.’ But really I was just a dickhead for a minute and the only way I could deal with it was to stop and put myself in that person’s place. “8” is also the studio version of “see-through,” a previously unreleased track, under an alternate title. The theory was born after fans noticed the tracks had the same length, and was later confirmed by Eilish liking this fan-post on Instagram. It was reinforced further after Eilish liked a fan’s DM asking the same question. The track’s Spotify artwork was done by @ervanic on Instagram. Billie explained in an interview with Zane Lowe: "I wrote ‘8’ from the perspective of somebody that I hurt….I feel like when people hear that song they’re like, “Oh, poor, baby, Billie, she’s so hurt” I was just a ******** for a minute. I really was. The only way I could deal with it was to just stop for a second and put myself in that person’s place. It’s me empathizing and the thing is that every lyric in that song is towards me." In an Instagram story, Billie revealed that “8” was inspired by “I’m Sorry,” “Drew Barrymore,” and “I’m a Fool to Want You”. Billie’s brother, FINNEAS, explained to Vulture: "We get really picky about titles of songs, and I think in that case, “8” was a song that we thought we’d be more likely to click on and listen to, if we were just observers of our music, than a song called “See Through.”" Billie posted an image to her Instagram story revealing that “8” was originally meant to be “7.” The image also shows that “!!!!!!!” was not on the original tracklist. During the week ending April 13, 2019, “8” debuted and peaked at #79 on the Hot 100.
