Conan Gray - The Exit

[Verse 1]
February, and the flowers haven't even wilted
It's crazy how fast you tilted
The world that we were busy buildin'
Mid-November, and I'm sippin' on a half-cold coffee
Starin' at a girl who's not me
On your arm, a carbon copy

[Pre-Chorus]
Feels like we had matching wounds
But mine's still black and bruised
And yours is perfectly fine now
Feels like we buried alive
Something that never died
So, God, it hurt when I found out
[Chorus]
You love her, it's over
Do you even doubt it on your lips? (When you say it, say it)
You love her, it's over
You already found someonе to miss
While I'm still standin' at the exit (Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
I'm still standin' at thе exit (Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh)

[Verse 2]
I can't hate you for getting everything we wanted
I just thought that I would be a part of it
I was movin' into your apartment
When you met someone, she's from your hometown
You hate the East coast, it's where you live now
Impossible to understand how you're not comin' back
But I can't say it out loud

[Chorus]
You love her, it's over
Do you even doubt it on your lips? (What do you say, say?)
You love her, it's over
You already found someone to miss
While I'm still standin' at the exit (Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
I'm still standin' at the exit (Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh)

[Pre-Chorus]
Feels like we had matching wounds
But mine's still black and bruised
And yours is perfectly fine
Feels like we buried alive
Something that never died
So God, it hurt when I found out

“The Exit” is the closing track from Conan Gray’s sophomore studio album "Superache". Here, Conan details his emotions as he watches a lover move on after their relationship, while he is still heartbroken. “The Exit” — alongside “People Watching,” “Disaster,” and “Telepath” — is one of many songs on Superache made in collaboration with singer-songwriter Julia Michaels. Regarding the process of writing “The Exit,” Michaels told Paper Magazine: "Our last song, “The Exit,” was full vulnerability. It ended our songwriting arc on such a beautiful note." Conan went on to add: "That one was very much a diary entry. We wrote that song in the last 30 minutes before you had to go home, and it’s [reconciling with the fact that] someone is going to see me and know me [on this painful level]." "I wanted to end the album with ‘The Exit’ because it sums up the album. It’s about realizing that everyone around you is moving on, but you’re still standing at the exit, wondering how everyone is doing it so easily and how they’re able to continue on with their lives after being heartbroken. It’s always been something that’s dumbfounded me. I’m a lingerer. I just stick around, write songs, and think." — Via Apple Music
