Elton John - Sacrifice
It's a human sign when things go wrong
When the scent of her lingers and temptation's strong
Into the boundary of each married man, sweet deceit comes calling and negativity lands
Cold, cold heart, hard done by you
Some things look better, baby, just passing through
And it's no sacrifice, just a simple word
It's two hearts living in two separate worlds
But it's no sacrifice, no sacrifice, it's no sacrifice at all
Mutual misunderstanding after the fact
Sensitivity builds a prison in the final act
We lose direction, no stone unturned
No tears to damn you when jealousy burns
Cold, cold heart, hard done by you
Some things look better, baby, just passing through
And it's no sacrifice, just a simple word
It's two hearts living in two separate worlds
But it's no sacrifice, no sacrifice, it's no sacrifice at all
Cold, cold heart, hard done by you
Some things look better, baby, just passing through
And it's no sacrifice, just a simple word
It's two hearts living in two separate worlds
But it's no sacrifice, no sacrifice, it's no sacrifice at all
No sacrifice at all
No sacrifice at all
No sacrifice at all
No sacrifice at all
"Sacrifice" was the second single from Elton John's 22nd studio album, Sleeping with the Past. Released in October of 1989, it became John's first top 20 release of the 1990s in the U.S., reaching #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. The single failed to make the top 40 on the UK Official Charts on its initial release (peaking at #55). It was however re-released in the summer of 1990 with "Healing Hands" as a double A-sided single. "Sacrifice/Healing Hands" became Elton John's first #1 single in the UK and France. It stayed at the top of the charts for five weeks, selling more than 600,000 units in the UK alone.
