Harry Styles - eVeR sinCE nEw yORK

[Verse 1]
Tell me something, tell me something
You don’t know nothing, just pretend you do
I need something, tell me something new
Choose your words, 'cause there's no antidote
For this curse, oh, what's it waiting for?
Must this hurt you just before you go?

[Chorus]
Oh, tell me something I don't already know
Oh, tell me something I don't already know

[Verse 2]
Brooklyn saw me, empty at the news
There's no water inside this swimming pool
Almost over, had enough from you
I've been praying, I never did before
Understand I'm talking to the walls
I've been praying ever since New York

[Chorus]
Oh, tell me something I don't already know
Oh, tell me something I don't already know
Oh, tell me something I don't already know
Oh, tell me something I don't already know

“Ever Since New York” is the second song to have been performed off of Harry Styles' self-titled debut solo album. It is a slow folk-style song, which adds to the already eclectic range of genres making up the rest of the album. The song details a strong sadness seemingly about a disconnection and an inability to move forward with someone Harry cares deeply about. In a private show, he detailed that he wrote the song about bad news he got about a family member when he was in a hotel in Brooklyn, New York. It’s heavily believed to be about Harry’s late stepfather Robin Twist, and the series of agonizing events following his cancer diagnosis. “Ever Since New York” was first performed on the April 15, 2017, episode of Saturday Night Live along with the previously released “Sign of the Times” and officially released with the rest of the Harry Styles on May 12, 2017. The opening guitar chords of “Ever Since New York” are reminiscent of the opening to Filter’s 1999 “Take a Picture.”
