Der Opener von Jamie Cullums "The Pursuit" ist eine Nummer, die der Feder von Cole Porter entspringt. 1935 schrieb er das Stück quasie "über Nacht" als Abschlußsong für das Broadway-Musical "Jubilee". (2. Akt, Lied 6) Genauso schnell wurde er innerhalb der damals großen Jazzszene zu einem Renner und wurde zu einem Standard des "American Songbook", einem von Alec Wilder konzipiertem Konstrukt wichtiger amerikanischer Stücke. Interpretiert wurde das Lied außer von Jamie Cullum von Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Bing Crosby, Doris Day, Lena Horne, Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, Louis Prima, Diana Krall, John Barrowman, Bryan Ferry, Lionel Hampton, Claude Bolling, Oscar Peterson, Sidney Bechet, Nellie McKay, Erin McKeown, Joan Morris, und The Pogues mit Kirsty MacColl. Nat King Cole nahm es 1957 in sein gleichnamiges Album auf. Das Serienfinale von M.A.S.H. beruft sich auf den Songtext mit den Worten "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen".
