Keane - Somewhere Only We Know
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
So if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
[break]
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
So why don't we go
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know
"Somewhere Only We Know" is a song composed by English alternative rock band, Keane. It is the opening track on their debut studio album, "Hopes and Fears". It has been covered by several artists, including in 2013 by Lily Allen: her cover version was used as the soundtrack to the Christmas advertising campaign for the UK department store, John Lewis, and reached number 1 in the UK charts. Contrary to popular belief, "Somewhere Only We Know" is most likely not about lovers. Tim Rice-Oxley has said that 'somewhere only we know' can be a great variety of things, and when writing the song, left it to be ambiguous, though he has thought of it as a sort of escape, such as a good memory or a favorite place. Rice-Oxley told the UK newspaper,The Daily Mirror, "It's about being able to draw strength from a place or experience you've shared with someone. I think its an idea a lot of people can relate to." "Somewhere Only We Know" was used on the original soundtrack (OST) to the 2009 motion picture, 'He's Just Not That Into You'.
