Mac explains in his commentary: "Track six, “Smile Back” is the second cut off the album. That’s me getting a little more aggressive and really kinda attacking the beat and kinda standing up to people who doubting me and people that been hating on m my whole career." Mac gave a few words on the meaning behind this song: "“Smile Back” was my one opportunity to say ‘fuck you.’ You know, I am a positive, happy dude. What do I really have to be? With all the horrible things that happen to people in the world what do I really, really have to be sad about? But that was my one song [where] I was like, ‘Ugh!’ ‘Fuck you!’ I just wanted to be able to say that and it felt so good. That song feels so good to perform. It relieves so much stress to say that."
