Pink Floyd - The Thin Ice

Momma loves her baby
And Daddy loves you too
And the sea may look warm to you Babe
And the sky may look blue
Ooooh Babe
Ooooh Baby Blue
Ooooh Babe
If you should go skating
On the thin ice of modern life
Dragging behind you the silent reproach
Of a million tear stained eyes
Don't be surprised, when a crack in the ice
Appears under your feet
You slip out of your depth and out of your mind
With your fear flowing out behind you
As you claw the thin ice

This song is a precursor for the rest of the album. if you imagine that others are the ice you are skating on, the more good, honest friends you have, and the more support you have the thicker the ice is and the safer you are. Since Pink didn’t have the kind of support he needed, he had incredibly thin ice. And he slipped out of his depth and out of his mind as he struggled to claw his way out. In an interview with Jim Ladd, Roger Waters explains: "It’s supposed to be about how…I think it’s about how parents start inducing, almost inject, their own fears and worries into their children from a very early age. Particularly in my case when they had just been through a world war or something like that – we all go through devastating experiences and we tend to pass them onto our children when they are very young – I suspect."
