Shakira - Underneath Your Clothes

You're a song
Written by the hands of God
Don't get me wrong
'Cause this might sound
To you a bit odd
But you own the place
Where all my thoughts
Go hiding
And right under your clothes
Is where I find them

Underneath your clothes
There's an endless story
There's the man I chose
There's my territory
And all the things
I deserve
For being such
A good girl honey

'Cause of you
I forgot the
Smart ways to lie
Because of you
I'm running out of
Reasons to cry
When the friends are gone
When the party's over
We will still belong
To each other

Underneath your clothes
There's an endless story
There's the man I chose
There's my territory
And all the things
I deserve
For being such
A good girl honey

Underneath your clothes
There's an endless story
There's the man I chose
There's my territory
And all the things
I deserve
For being such a good girl girl, for being such a... Ahhh

I love you more than all
That's on the planet
Movin' talkin' walkin' breathin'
You know it's true
Oh baby it's so funny
You almost don't believe it
As every voice is hanging from the silence
Lamps are hanging from the ceiling
Like a lady tied to her manners
I'm tied up to this feeling

Underneath your clothes
There's an endless story
There's the man I chose
There's my territory
And all the things
I deserve
For being such
A good girl honey

Underneath your clothes
Wah-oh oh oh oh
There's the man I chose
There's my territory
And all the things
I deserve
For being such
A good girl
For being such
A good girl

"Underneath Your Clothes" is a song by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira - the second English language single released from Laundry Service (2001). To date, "Underneath Your Clothes" is Shakira's third most successful single worldwide, behind only "Whenever, Wherever" (2001) and "Hips Don't Lie" (2006). "Underneath Your Clothes" is a love song with lyrics by Shakira and music by her and Lester Mendez. It tells the story of the unconditional love that a woman has for her boyfriend, which is referenced in the lyrics. The song is clearly heavily influenced by the 80s hit "Eternal Flame" by The Bangles, written by songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. "Underneath Your Clothes" is listed on #391 on Blender's "The 500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born" list. The music video for "Underneath Your Clothes" was directed by American photographer Herb Ritts and it was the second to last he directed before his death. It starts with a black-and-white scene of a reporter asking Shakira how she feels about crossing over into the English-speaking music market, and the singer, ironically, answers him in Spanish. Shakira claimed in her "MTV Making the Video" of the song that the "Crossover" claims had been her daily bread, and that she heavily wished for this to be included into the video. The video illustrates her loneliness as a music artist when she goes on tour. Then, scenes of the singer performing the song live with her band and passionately hugging her boyfriend (played by her real-life fiancé Antonio de la Rúa) are shown. "Underneath Your Clothes" was the second video by Shakira to retire on MTV's TRL on May 14, 2002, when it was at #3 on the countdown.
