beabadoobee - Coffee
[Verse 1]
Don't stay awake for too long
Don't go to bed
I'll make a cup of coffee for your head
I'll get you up and going out of bed
And I promise that one day I'll feel fine
And I promise that one day I'll feel alright
[Chorus]
And I'll make a cup of coffee
With the right amount of sugar
How you like it
And I'll make a cup of coffee
With the right amount of sugar
How you like it
How you like it
[Bridge]
Don't know how long I'll stay for
It's okay, I'll knock on your door
Won't you come down and get me?
I like it when you hold me
Tight
[Verse 2]
You make me feel nice
The green in your eyes
Makes me feel warm inside
“Coffee” is a light acoustic ballad written by and performed by beabadoobee. In it, Bea lightly touches on the themes of mental health, relationships, and how they play together. In a Vice profile piece, Bea mentions that this song was about her boyfriend, Søren: "It was about my boyfriend, Søren, because he has green eyes. It was about him—it’s the cringiest love song about me making coffee for him." In an interview with Pigeons with Planes, Bea confirms that this is the first song that she’s written for the guitar. In the same interview, she also says: "I’ve realized I can’t play to a click. ‘Coffee’ is all over the place. The tempo is so wack." Notably, “Coffee” was sampled on Powfu’s "death bed (coffee for your head)" in 2019, which was re-released in 2020.
